I'm Javier Wallace, a historian and storyteller on a mission to uncover and preserve the extraordinary stories of marginalized communities, especially stories of Black communities across the African diaspora—including those in Latin America - who have used sports to overcome adversity.
My own family's history is woven into this narrative. My Panamanian father and African American mother met on a tennis court, bonding over their shared passion for sport and determination to break down barriers. Their journeys inspire my work through Black Austin Tours, where I research, document, and share the untold stories of Black Texans - from pioneering athletes to the formerly enslaved who built this state.
But my ambitions stretch beyond Texas. I envision Black Austin Tours as a media platform to amplify the extraordinary stories of the broader Blackdiaspora, using sports as a common thread. By expanding the reach of these histories beyond Texas, Black Austin Tours aims to strengthen cultural identity and morale across the broader Black diaspora.
